Introduction of the Corps

The Danish Women On-Call Service (Danish: Danske Kvinders Beredskabskorps) whad been an umbrella organisation of female social workers in uniform. In 1946 these good resources were transformed to a female unarmed military auxiliary corps, based on a Finnish antitype and called The Lotte Corps (Danish: Lottekorpset), in order to support the army by signal service, catering service and medical service. The equivalent for the navy had been the Female Naval Corps (Danish: Kvindeligt Marinekorps). The name giver of the new organisation had been the protagonist in the poem "Lotta Svärd" (=sword), which was edited in 1860 by Johan Ludvig Runeberg in "Fänrik Ståls sägner" (English: The Tales of Ensign Stål (= steel)), a collection of 35 poems about the loss of Finland to Russia in 1809. In 1951 both corpses became an independent part under the roof of the organisation of The Home Defence Corps ((Hjemmeværnet)), before exclusively for males. In 1953 the Female Air Corps (Kvindeligt Flyvekorps) was established as support of the Air Force. The three organisations existed until 1989, when the where completely incorporated into the Home Defence Corps ((Hjemmeværnet)).
